Discover Lisbon’s highlights and history on a guided private walking tour. Take a yellow tram, bike along the Tagus River and view the city on a scenic river cruise. Taste the local treat, the Pastel de Belém.
About this tour
Meet your guide in Rossio Square and immerse yourself in Lisbon’s history. Walk to Restauradores Square to climb the Elevador da Glória, a famous Lisbon yellow tram that takes you up to Bairro Alto to enjoy one of the best views of the city from the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint. Walk to the Church of St. Roque, the church with the most valuable chapel in the world, and marvel at the ruins of the Carmo Convent, destroyed in the earthquake of 1755, as your guide tells its historical past.
Continue down to Downtown Lisbon, the historic and commercial area of the city, then on to the Alfama District, where the architecture and history of the Cathedral of Lisbon — the oldest church in the capital of Portugal — await. Follow your guide to Praça do Comércio, one of the largest and most beautiful squares in Europe, open to the south to the immense estuary of the Tagus River, where foreign kings and heads of state were once received on visits to Portugal.
By bike to Belém
Continue the tour cycling to Belém, a Lisbon neighborhood that honors the memory of Portugal’s historical navigators. Bike 7 kilometers on flat paths along the Tagus River, passing the iconic April 25th Bridge and the impressive modern architecture of the MAAT Museum. In Belém, immerse yourself in 16th-century culture and architecture with the impressive Manueline-style artwork of the Jerónimos Monastery, then enter the famous pastry shop “Pastéis de Belém”, founded in 1837, and taste the traditional pastel de Belém in its original recipe.
Follow your guide to the Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage monument that defended the city from maritime attacks in the sixteenth century.
Back by boat
To finish, take a boat ride along the Tagus River and relax with the city views from a different perspective until you reach Praça do Comércio, where this adventure ends.
